How To Receive Your Data ?
データの受け取り方
If you ARE attending observation...
your data is immediately available at the summit from the ANA workstations during observation. Observers typically put laptops on B-LAN
(to access the internet and email) and FTP the data from ANA to their laptop. In addition, a private network U-LAN has been setup for observers at
summit and remote sites to receive your data from ANA. Attending Observers usually receive data during or immediately after observation,
without using STARS Query or using STARS User accounts.
Note: ANA has /work areas for data reduction during observation. These /work areas are not protected and can be recycled for free space AT
ANY TIME. If you have /work data you wish to keep, please transfer the data to your laptop/home institute before leaving the summit. Data in /work
areas can be erased without notice if disk usage is high.

Your STARS User account has been created, and you can access STARS Query. However, during
your observation, data is available at the summit with SOSS Proposal ID logins only (ie, o08121). Your STARS User Account will allow you to access STARS and MASTARS data through the internet after observation. |

You DO NOT need a STARS User account to receive data at summit or request tape. |
If you ARE NOT attending observation...
your data is available from STARS Archive and MASTARS Archive, or you can request tape.

Your STARS User account has been created, and you can access STARS Query. Your Attending Co-I can
receive data during observation without a STARS User account. |

If you are listed on the PI's Proposal application as a Co-I, we will make STARS User account and assign Proposal ID,
or accept tape request. If you are not listed on the PI's Proposal application, you MUST get PI approval first. |
What is STARS & MASTARS?
STARS is the name of the Subaru Telescope data archive system in Hilo, Hawaii.
STARS stores and manages all data taken at the Subaru Telescope.
In addition, MASTARS is a mirror archive of Subaru Telescope observation data in Mitaka, Japan.
Subaru data is sent to MASTARS every ten minutes throughout the night. Astronomers outside Japan
may use STARS to access Subaru data. Astronomers inside Japan
may use MASTARS to access Subaru data.
The mirrored archives in Hilo and Mitaka offer 24-hour online access to all Subaru observation data. Observers
use their STARS User account to query frames and receive frames through the internet after observation. The STARS User account is only useful
for accessing data through STARS & MASTARS Archive after observation. After the 18-month proprietary period, the
data is available from the SMOKA Archive in Mitaka in perpetuity. Observers may also request tapes to be mailed to them from the STARS Archive.
Typically, attending observers receive their data during observation, without using a STARS User account. The STARS and MASTARS Archives are typically used by non-attending observers
who do NOT receive their data from attending observers.

1 Minute STARS - Tutorial
Probably, you have already been assigned a STARS User account and password and your Proposal IDs
have been assigned to your User account. Observers receive a letter on arrival in Hilo that detail the STARS User and Proposal ID accounts for
the observation. STARS User and Proposal ID information is sent through email for non-attending observers. User accounts are in the format: bsmith. Proposal IDs are in the format: o07428.
In STARS Query, Proposal IDs also have instrument abbreviations as a suffix - for example, o07428_MCS (MOIRCS).
To Receive Data:
- access 'https://stars.naoj.org'
- select 'Search Observation Frames'
- select 'Simple Query'
- validate login and password (STARS User account format is 'bsmith')
- choose Proposal ID from drop-down list, select 'Search'
- display 'Your Query Results', select 'Offline', select 'http' or 'https', and push 'Transfer'
- display 'Transfer Request Confirmation', highlight and copy result-URL into buffer
- paste result-URL into browser, access result-URL
- validate login and password, login format is 'bsmith'
- FITS frames are accessible (including md5's), click to download
- Your data result will contain a file listing: '0_list_{datetime}'. If you download this one file, you can then non-interactively download
the entire file list with one command from UNIX: 'wget --http-user={login} --http-password={password} -i O_list_{datetime}'. Note: Do NOT
enter brackets when entering login/password/datetime.

観測に参加している場合
山頂での観測中、データはANAワークステーションからデータ取得直後から受け取ることができます。通常、観測者はラップトップコンピューターをB-LANというネットワークに繋ぎ、インターネットやメールを利用したり、ANAからFTPにてデータを受信します。さらにU-LANと呼ばれるネットワークが山頂やリモート観測室にいる観測者のために設置されており、ANAからデータを受信することができます。このように通常、観測に参加している観測者はSTARS
QueryやSTARS ユーザーアカウントを使わずに観測データを観測中、または観測直後に受信できます。注意：ANAには/workというデータ解析のための作業領域があります。この/work領域に置かれるデータはの保全は保証されず、全体の使用量が増えるといつでも空き容量を確保するために既存データは削除されます。したがって、/work領域のデータを持って帰られる場合には、山頂を離れる前にご自身のパソコンや研究所にデータをコピーされることをおすすめします。/work領域に置かれたデータは領域全体の使用量が高くなった際に予告なく消去されることがあります。

STARS＆MASTARSとは?
STARSとはハワイ島ヒロにある「すばる望遠鏡データアーカイブシステム」の愛称です。
STARSはすばる望遠鏡で取得されたすべてのデータを保管、管理しており、東京都三鷹市に本部を置く国立天文台によって運用されています。さらに、国立天文台はMASTARSと呼ばれるSTARSのミラーアーカイブサイトを運用しています。すばる望遠鏡で取得されたデータは10分間隔で一夜を通してMASTARSに送られています。
日本国外のユーザはSTARSに、日本国内のユーザはMASTARSにアクセスしてください。
ヒロと三鷹のアーカイブシステムは24時間アクセスが可能で、いつでもすばる望遠鏡のデータをオンラインで見ることができます。観測者は観測後、自身のSTARSユーザアカウントを使い、検索条件を入れることにより、インターネット経由で観測データを受け取ることができます。
STARSのユーザーアカウントは観測後にSTARS&MASTARSを通してデータにアクセスするためにのみ有効です。山頂での観測中、観測に参加される方はSTARSのユーザアカウントとは異なるプロポーザルIDのみでデータにアクセスすることができます。データは観測から18ヶ月間は観測者に専有権が認められていますが、その後は三鷹のSMOKAを通して一般公開されます。また、観測者はSTARSのデータをテープ媒体で送付するよう請求することもできます。
観測に参加される方は観測中、STARSのユーザーアカウントを使用せずに観測データを受け取ることができます。したがって、STARS及びMASTARSは観測に参加せず、他の観測された方からもデータを受け取られれなかった方によってよく使われます。

一分間STARSチュートリアル
この時点ではもうすでにSTARS
ユーザーアカウント、パスワード、そしてプロポーザルIDをお持ちですね。実際の観測者はヒロに到着後STARSのユーザーアカウント、プロポーザルID
についての手紙を受け取り、その他の観測者はE-mailでその情報を受け取ります。ユーザー名とプロポーザルIDの取り間違いのないように気をつけてください。ユーザー名の例としては:
bsmith、プロポーザルIDにはo07428のような形があげられます。STARSでの検索の際、プロポーザルIDは語尾に機械名称の略語がつく場合もあります。[例,
o07428_MCS (MOIRCS)]
データを受信するには:
- https://stars.naoj.org を開く
- Search Observation Frames をクリック
- Simple Query Mode をクリック
- ユーザー名とパスワードを入力
- プロポーザルIDを選択してSearchをクリック
- Your Query Resultsの画面が表示されたらOfflineを選択し、httpまたはhttpsを選択してTransferをクリック
- Transfer Request Confirmationの画面の中に表示されたURLをコピーする
- コピーしたURLをアドレスバーに貼り付け画面を開く
- ユーザー名とパスワードを入力
- FITS フレームにアクセス可能 (md5's を含む), クリックしてダウンロードする

ダウンロードできるファイルにはダウンロードファイルのリスト'0_list_{日付・時刻}'を含みます。このファイルリストをダウンロードすることにより、UNIXのコマンドを用いて複数のデータファイルを自動的にダウンロードできるようになります。コマンドは
’wget --http-user={ユーザ名} --http-password={パスワード} -i O_list_{日付・時刻}'
です。注意：ユーザ名、パスワード、日付・時刻のところには括弧を入力しないで下さい。
