The American Astronomical Society's annual meeting, which is often referred to as the "Super Bowl of astronomy," was held in Honolulu, Hawaii, on January 4-8, 2020. The Subaru Telescope participated in the exhibit booth of the Maunakea Observatories and used slides to present an overview of the Subaru Telescope, highlights of the recent discoveries, and next generation plans. Videos introducing how local staff from Hawaii contribute to the operation of the Subaru Telescope were also shown at the booth.

In addition, scientists from Subaru Telescope demonstrated "hscMap," an interactive viewer for images taken with the Subaru Telescope's wide-field camera Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC) at the booth and at the special event "An Evening with Maunakea Observatories" held on the night of January 7. Many meeting participants, ranging from students to senior astronomers, peeked at the demonstration screen and acknowledged the Subaru Telescope's unique capability for wide field imaging with high spatial resolution.

"hscMap is definitely one of the most wonderful image viewers of the Subaru Telescope. Using the viewer, one can feel the Universe that the Subaru Telescope is actually looking at. We were so excited to have a chance to introduce it widely at the AAS meeting, in which more than 3000 people participated." says Subaru Telescope's support astronomer Dr. Ichi Tanaka, who was in charge of the "hscMap" demonstration.
