Replacement of Computers

Engineering time due to computer replacement

Computers that control observation (i.e., OBS, OWS, etc.) will be replaced during S08A. Although there is no essential change of the software, the whole system including computers for the telescope and instrument control needs to be tested and adjusted. As the result, consecutive two weeks of telescope time will be used for engineering and risk-shared observatory time in April, May or June 2008. In addition, the first few hours of some open-use nights may be allocated for system check-ups.

Influence on of STARS and Hilo computer system

Replacement of the computers for data archive (STARS) and for observation support at Hilo results in the change of the operation policy of STARS and data analysis. STARS will have a separate user management system from the one for Subaru's main computer/network. There will be no longer computers and data storage for data analysis on the new computer system. The new system and the new user policy are planned to be in effect during S08A. We will provide relevant users with further information when it becomes available.
